This is Holy Ground
To most this just looks like an ordinary classroom, but to me this is Holy Ground. This is a testimony to the faithfulness of God as He perfectly oriented the events of my life to lead me here today.
Ever since I was a little girl I dreamed of being a teacher. I dreamed of the day where I would have a classroom to decorate and make a space for students of my very own. Those dreams are coming true and I couldn’t be more excited. I knew deep in my little soul way back in elementary school that God was calling me to be a teacher. As I grew older the voices of the world began to get louder, “are you sure you want to do that?”, “you won’t make any money”, the list goes on, and ever since the Covid-19 Pandemic, those voices have only gotten louder. Despite those voices, that desire in my heart has only grown stronger, and I know wholeheartedly that this is where I am supposed to be.
I think there is something to be said for burnout cause it’s real and I have experienced it in my own life with various things. Healthy boundaries between work and other areas of life are so important, but perhaps there is a new lens the Lord is inviting you and I to look through. Recently these words have echoed in my mind on repeat lately, “This is Holy Ground.” Several months ago I listened to a podcast about how God places things in our lives to purify our hearts, to sanctify our souls, and to lead us to Heaven. Our work is good when we offer it to Jesus, our work is Holy Ground because Jesus wants to meet us there too. Our work can be a prayer in and of itself. Jesus is using the very place that you and I are in right now to draw us near to His Sacred Heart and to transform us into saints. In doing the will of the Father, I believe that you friends are precisely on Holy Ground no matter where you stand, whether it be the classroom, road construction, mommas taking care of their babies at home, or the church, He is there. Walking through this classroom door, I find myself standing on Holy Ground. I find myself eager to continue my first year of teaching, excited to provide a space where every child is known, seen, and loved. Where are the places the Father is inviting you to recognize as Holy Ground in your life? What is He trying to teach you there?
Here’s to seeing what the Lord is teaching me through the little hands and feet which walk through this door every single day. Here’s to finding joy in colorful pens, school supplies, coffee, the little smiles, and the kiddos behind them which I have the privilege of teaching. This indeed is Holy Ground for me.
